We all know what Remembrance Day is about, right?
Good.
That saves me the time of telling you.
Let's cut to the chase.
Everyone says, "We will remember."
Really?
WE will remember?
How about THEY will remember.
Because there are only a handful of people who really, truly, do.
The rest of us just tack those words together, because if we don't have empathy here, the dirty looks and scornful stares will be enough to send us skittering into the backs of our own minds. Sad.
The soldiers, the nurses, the bombers - those are the only ones who remember.
They remember the gunfire
They heartbreak
The heat, the cold
The pain
The smoke
The exhaustion
The heartbreak.
Does anyone ever consider?
That perhaps those soldiers were torn, between going, and staying.
Not like the movies -
Where the brave young man runs without heart nor head, into the heat of the battle.
They were told that they had a duty to their country.
But what about the duty to their familes?
Who would feed, clothe, and kiss them goodnight?
HUH?
Who?
Stupid.
War is stupid.
And yet somehow, completely necessary.
*Sigh*
I'm trying to make a point, all right?
Do you get it yet?
Hmmm?
Maybe I have several points.
The soldiers weren't naive.
They knew that war meant possible death.
What would it be like, to leave your fate to your enemies?
Unpleasant thoughts to think.
We try not to think about it.
And we tell ourselves that we don't have to, because it's not a reality.
Yet.
This is why we tack those words together, tying the knots between them without guilt.
Because we are ignorant, really.
We (should) admire and respect the veterans -
But I don't think that we always listen them.
"Whatever you say, Gramps." We utter, as they tell their stories, as they emphasize the horror.
Those men and women in uniform are so much more than "gramps".
"Put yourself in their shoes," others may say.
We can't.
We're too thick, too internally fueled, to do that.
We're not imaginative enough, either.
It's a day off of school, you know.
Remembrance Day.
Don't be so narrowly focussed as that -
It's not just a day off of school, or work
Watch the live broadcasts, wear your poppy.
Sing "Oh Canada," and be as proud to sing it as you've ever been.
That song can make me cry, you know.
When it's sung with so much force, by so many who know it by heart, at the right moment.
"The true north, strong and free."
Beautiful.
I'm so proud of Canada.
We helped,
We helped fight
For freedom.
Do you get it yet?
My point?
I'd hope so.
Well.
Remembrance Day is 2 days away.
I dare you - don't say it
Don't mindlessly chant, "We will remember."
Be more specific.
Or say it because you mean it.
"They will remember, and we will try to understand."
"We will not be ingorant."
"We will not forget, or ignore."
"We will remember, because they sacrificed more than we'll ever have to."
I dare you.
God Bless.

Ageing (Dieing!!!)
In Science we are learning about cells and stuff when this really interesting fact came up. Did you know that scientists think that at a certain point after fifty cells have multiplied they start to die and stop replacing themselves? This is where we would start to age. But what is aging really?
I have come to the conclusion that Aging is really the act of dieing. Think about it, you cant remake skin cells. So your skin gets older and starts dieing and getting wrinkly and this makes growing up totally pointless! You spend like twenty years ripening into this beautiful, fully grown adult and then you start aging. Which is really dieing! Cant there be a point where you stop and are say "wow!" "I'm fully grown and looking good!" Your body just grows and grows and then "Ages" (DIES!!!) You basically spend your whole life dieing, becoming less then what you grew up to be.
Until its all gone
